Joey Gazelle (Paul Walker) is a low-level “mechanic” in the Mafia who hopes to rise through the ranks by doing whatever is needed.
One night, a drug deal goes very wrong when police show up and try to close down the operation; shots break out and a battle ensues, with a pair of of cops meeting a particularly violent fate at bad end of a gun barrel.
Joey is given the gun that killed the policemen and is told to make it disappear so it can’t be used as evidence; however, before he can do that, the weapon is stolen by Oleg (Cameron Bright), a friend of Joey’s young son, who takes the pistol and uses it to shoot his abusive stepfather.
Now that the gun is implicated in high profile crimes, it’s vitally important that Joey find it as soon as possible, but his search for the firearm is complicated by the fact that Oleg’s stepdad is affiliated with a rival gang of Russian mobsters, and that Rydell (Chazz Palminteri), a seriously corrupt police detective, is hot on Joey’s trail.
Joey’s search for the gun takes him through the grim criminal netherworld of the city, where he must face off against nearly every sort of crook, con artist, and deviate that has ever walked the earth.
Running Scared is from writer-director Wayne Kramer, who made a name for himself with the well-reviewed independent feature The Cooler.

Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale), the son of a wealthy Wall Street financier, is pursuing his own lucrative career with his father’s firm.
Bateman is the prototypical yuppie, obsessed with success, fashion, and style.
He is also a serial killer who murders, rapes, and mutilates both strangers and acquaintances without provocation or reason.
Donald Kimble (Willem Dafoe), a police detective, questions Bateman about the disappearance of Paul Allen (Jared Leto), whom Patrick murdered several days earlier.
As Kimble stays on Bateman’s trail, Bateman’s mask of studied, distant cool begins to fall apart.
American Psycho also features Reese Witherspoon as Bateman’s girlfriend, as well as Samantha Mathis, Chloe Sevigny, and Guinevere Turner; the latter also co-authored the screenplay.
Controversy followed the production from the start, when speculation that Leonardo Di Caprio would play Bateman sparked concerns that he would lure preteens to an R-rated movie.
Di Caprio soon bowed out of the project, and original leading man Bale was reinstated.
Later, a group of Toronto residents attempted to block filming in that city after Canadian serial killer Paul Bernardo claimed that Ellis’ novel inspired his murder spree.

The local district attorney is looking to clean the streets of the criminal element, and fearless narcotics cop Do (Hwang Jeong-min) is eager to make a name for himself on the force.
In exchange for his own protection, local second-generation dealer Lee Sang-do (Ryu Seung-beom) has agreed to become an informant for Do.
When word comes down that the DA’s office wants to assume control over all drug-related investigations, Do convinces Sang-do to turn in his supplier with the understanding that Sang-do will be spared in the subsequent sweep.
Unfortunately for both the cop and the dealer, the raid hits an unexpected hitch.
Now, with Sang-do suspended from the force and Do given a stiff prison sentence, the Busan port comes under control of ruthless drug lord Jangchul (Lee Do-gyeong) — the very man responsible for killing Do’s former partner.
Years later Sang-do is released from prison and Do has been reinstated on the force, drawing the pair into an uneasy alliance in which Do will watch over the informant as he works his way through the criminal ranks and gains access into Jangchul’s inner circle.

A Perfect Murder is based on Frederick Knott’s play Dial M for Murder, filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1954.
Married to commodities trader Stephen Taylor (Michael Douglas), Emily Bradford (Gwyneth Paltrow) is romantically involved with artist David Shaw (Viggo Mortensen).
Aware of this affair, Stephen researches David’s past, visits his loft studio, and informs David that he knows about his aliases, jail sentences, and various cons and scams directed at rich women.

The plan is calculated to make the murder look like an accident, but events soon go on an unscheduled course.

Knott’s original play opened June 1952 in London, followed by a New York run that began October 1952.
Several books and sources describe how Hitchcock’s film was made in 3-D but neglect to mention that, despite trade screenings in 3-D, Dial M for Murder was originally released in 1954 with ordinary, flat 2-D prints.
It was finally shown to audiences in 3-D during the mid-’80s.

A remake of the Spanish film Open Your Eyes (1997), this thriller from director Cameron Crowe bears one of several discarded titles for his previous, Oscar-winning film Almost Famous (2000).
Tom Cruise stars as David Ames, a womanizing playboy who finds romantic redemption when he falls in love with his best friend’s girlfriend Sofia (Penelope Cruz, reprising her role from the original film).
Before that relationship can begin, however, David is coaxed into a car driven by an ex-lover, Julie (Cameron Diaz), who turns out to be suicidal.
Driving her car off a bridge, Julie kills herself and horribly disfigures David.
Reconstructive surgery and the loving support of Sofia seem to reverse David’s luck, but eerie incidents are soon making him question the reality of his existence and his control over his life, even while he is suspected of complicity in Julie’s death.
Vanilla Sky (2001) bears the expected Crowe trademark of an obsession with recent pop culture and particularly rock music, a more important element of the remake than the original film.
That project’s writer/director, Alejandro Amenabar, crafted his own supernatural hit the same year with The Others (2001), starring Nicole Kidman, the soon-to-be-ex-wife of Cruise.

Adapted from the Cornell Woolrich novel Black Alibi, The Leopard Man is a lesser but still fascinating psychological-horror effort from producer Val Lewton.
Someone has been killing off the citizens of a small New Mexico town, and the most likely suspect is a huge leopard, purchased for a local nightclub act by press agent Jerry Manning (Dennis O’Keefe), which has escaped from its cage.
Neither Manning nor his star Clo-Clo (Margo) are totally convinced that the big cat is responsible.
The haunting finale takes place during the annual “Day of the Dead” festivities.
The opening sequence of Leopard Man, atmospherically detailing the last few moments of murder victim Teresa Delgado (Margaret Landry), is so powerful that the rest of the film seems anticlimactic.
Long available only in its 59-minute reissue form, the film was restored to its original 65-minute running time in the mid-1980s.
