After spoofing disaster films in Airplane!, police shows in The Naked Gun, and Hollywood horrors in Scary Movie 3 and 4, producer David Zucker sets his satirical sights on the superhero genre with this anarchic comedy lampooning everything from Spider-Man to X-Men and Superman Returns.
Shortly after being bitten by a genetically altered dragonfly, high-school outcast Rick Riker (Drake Bell) begins to experience a startling transformation.
Now Rick’s skin is as strong as steel, and he possesses the strength of ten men.
Determined to use his newfound powers to fight crime, Rick creates a special costume and assumes the identity of The Dragonfly — a fearless crime fighter dedicated to keeping the streets safe for law-abiding citizens.
But every superhero needs a nemesis, and after Lou Landers (Christopher McDonald) is caught in the middle of an experiment gone horribly awry, he develops the power to leech the life force out of anyone he meets and becomes the villainous Hourglass.
Intent on achieving immortality, the Hourglass attempts to gather as much life force as possible as the noble Dragonfly sets out to take down his archenemy and realize his destiny as a true hero.
Craig Mazin writes and directs this high-flying spoof featuring Tracy Morgan, Pamela Anderson, Leslie Nielsen, Marion Ross, Jeffrey Tambor, and Regina Hall.

Better Luck Tomorrow and Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift director Justin Lin takes a comic look at a longstanding bit of cinema mythology with this mockumentary exploring the making of Bruce Lee’s unfinished final film Game of Death.
When martial arts star Lee died in 1973 after having shot roughly twenty-minutes of the full-length feature, director Robert Clouse vowed to complete the film using a Bruce Lee look-a-like.
Though the film was eventually released into theaters in 1978, fans continue to debate just how much involvement Lee had in the making of the film nearly three decades after the fact.
Perhaps viewers will never know for certain just how much of Lee they are seeing in the final product, but in this knowing satire director Lin offers a hilarious look at how things might have gone down while simultaneously skewering mainstream cinema for it’s stereotypical treatment of Asian-American actors.

In this post-modernist exercise, star/writer Steve Martin and director Carl Reiner spoof the film noir yarns of the ’40s with Martin playing gumshoe Rigby Reardon, who interacts with a legion of Hollywood greats — including Humphrey Bogart, Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster, Edward Arnold, Barbara Stanwyck, Ingrid Bergman, Veronica Lake, Bette Davis, Lana Turner and Joan Crawford — in a succession of intercut clips from seventeen vintage Hollywood films.
Rigby is a low-rent detective (his fee is $10 per day) sitting in his office, waiting for something to happen.
That something happens when the voluptuous Juliet Forrest (Rachel Ward) arrives in his office and faints dead away at the sight of a newspaper that reports on her father’s death in a car accident.
Juliet is convinced that her father was murdered and offers Rigby $200 to investigate.
Upon searching Mr.
Forrest’s office, he comes upon a list of names under the headings “The Friends and Enemies of Carlotta.
” As the two delve deeper into the mystery and its requisite deceptions, they encounter an “exterminator,” Juliet’s surly Nazi butler, Field Marshal Von Kluck (Carl Reiner) and an overly helpful Mexican friend, Carlos Rodriguez (Reni Santoni).

In Robert Zemeckis’s trailblazing combination of animation and live-action, Hollywood’s 1940s cartoon stars are a subjugated minority, living in the ghettolike “Toontown” where their movements are sharply monitored by the human power establishment.
The Toons are permitted to perform in a Cotton Club-style nightspot but are forbidden to patronize the joint.
One of Toontown’s leading citizens, whacked-out Roger Rabbit, is framed for the murder of human nightclub owner Marvin Acme (Stubby Kaye).
Private detective Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins), whose prejudice against Toons stems from the time that his brother was killed by a falling cartoon piano, reluctantly agrees to clear Roger of the accusation.
Most of the sociopolitical undertones of the original novel were weeded out out of the 1988 film version, with emphasis shifted to its basic “evil land developer” plotline —and, more enjoyably, to a stream of eye-popping special effects.
With the combined facilities of animator Richard Williams, Disney, Warner Bros.
, Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, and George Lucas’s Industrial Light and Magic, the film allows us to believe (at least for 90 minutes) that “toons” exist, and that they are capable of interacting with 3-dimensional human beings.
Virtually every major cartoon character of the late 1940s shows up, with the exceptions of Felix the Cat and Popeye the Sailor, whose licensees couldn’t come to terms with the producers.
Of the film’s newly minted Toons, the most memorable is Roger Rabbit’s curvaceous bride Jessica (voiced, uncredited, by Kathleen Turner).
The human element is well-represented by Hoskins, Christopher Lloyd, and Joanna Cassidy; also watch for action-film producer Joel Silver as Roger Rabbit’s Tex Avery-style director.

A space bum helps rescue a princess from an evil overlord with the help of a benevolent elder in this Star Wars send-up written and directed by Mel Brooks.
Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his half-man, half-dog co-pilot, Barf the Mawg (John Candy), are content to scour the galaxy living the easy life.
But they reluctantly come to the rescue when Druish Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) is threatened by the evil Lord Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis), who wants to steal all of the air from her planet, Druidia.
Trapped on a harsh desert world with Vespa and her robot chaperone, Dot Matrix (voice of Joan Rivers), Lone Starr and Barf are helpless to prevent Helmet from kidnapping the girl.
But assistance arrives in the form of Yogurt (Brooks), a wizard who turns Lone Starr on to a mysterious power known as The Schwartz.
Catching up with Helmet just as he’s transforming his spaceship into a giant vacuum cleaner in orbit around Druidia, the reluctant heroes stage a dramatic showdown.
Although it borrows most of its plot from the Star Wars series, Spaceballs also pokes fun at Star Trek, Snow White, and Planet of the Apes — as well as the entire videocassette and movie marketing industries.
The large supporting cast includes Dick Van Patten, Jim J.
Bullock, and the voice of Dom DeLuise.
John Hurt makes a cameo in a parody of the exploding chest scene he played in Alien.
